Death of Bill Mackenzie: a man's man

* We were sad to read the newspaper notice from Jennie that our former Physical Training (PT) teacher, Bill Mackenzie, has passed away on February 4 at the age of 81, at Denmark, W.A., where they have lived for some years. Jennie and Bill were great mates who spent much time travelling, with activities such as golf. We will remember Bill as a tough but fair taskmaster ... with a healthy sense of humour. The sympathy of the Class of 74 is extended to Jennie and the family.

* Mid-February Update: Jennie tells us there are plans to have a Memorial Service at Ivanhoe in early March.

As We Were Saying ...

Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted

'Scandal'  Webmaster Ash Long is back on deck after suffering a heart attack. (Is he the first Class of 74 bloke to have a coronary? In another first, Ash became grandfather in May 2009).

Ash was admitted to the Austin Hospital Cardiology Unit on August 13, 2008, and has been active since with Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Ash is under a strict diet and exercise regime, and has lost 15kg over the first 13 weeks. (Ash had previously lost a further 20kg, making a total of 35kg).

So it will be a thinner 'Cool Scapt'n' for the 35 Year Reunion, due to be held in October 2009. Gimme that potato cake!

Mystery Letter Writer Remembers the 1974 Adelaide Trip

'Felicity', at kaden@wn.com.au, surprises us with memories of the IGS Sixth Form trip to Adelaide.

The trip was an extraordinary weekend at the homes of St Peter's Collegiate Girls' School.

'Felicity' writes: "Hi! No I did not go to IGS I did however go to IGGS for a short time.I found your site, as usual by accident and was blown away with it. Boy it bought back memories. I was one of the Saints girls who fell madly for a certain young man who shall remain nameless. I did find his photo! I was sure that there would have been a page or 2 about the return trip. Perhaps next time!

"I too, still have a letter written by that young man! Thanks for the memories, as I live in a very remote area of WA, the www. is an interesting part of my down time. I find some gems occasionally and your site is one of them. Felicity

"PS: you will not find my name on the hostess list as my mother did not think it a appropriate to have a young man in the house! But I did get to go on the return trip (I wont say how) and stay with said young man! Now that is another story!"

Editor's note: Somewhere in our files, we have the list of 'hostesses'. We'll upload the list when we find it!
